Hope, Grace, and Truth

I took off running with a girl called Hope

Hope twisted her ankle; sat down for a smoke

she’s a sweet little girl, but ain’t going anywhere

she brought me here just to see if I’d stay

If this is where we were going, I don’t know,

this is where we’ve come from being on the run.

I thought I was looking for a girl called Hope

Hope she left me for a man called Chance

Chance called my bluff and taught her to a dance

Hope’s got Chance and I’m without Hope

I better keep moving before it gets too dark.

I took off running with a girl called Hope

Hope twisted her ankle; sat down for a smoke.

I was always alone with a girl called Grace

Grace had a pretty body, but she had no face

I was lost when I found her, and I’m losing again

she’s a funny girl how she smells like Spring

she only belongs to a chosen few, but

there’s something about her so hard to resist.

Grace looks easy, but she’s hard to take.

She never had any until a girl called Faith.

Faith took her by the hand and showed her the way

There was a time I loved her, but I never trust Faith.

Now I’ve gotta to keep moving, I’m burning inside.

I was always alone with a girl called Grace

Grace had a pretty body, but she had no face.

I sat in a park with a girl called Alice

if she asked me to I would burn down Dallas.

She hasn’t asked because she barely talks

I’d tell her that I need her, but she won’t respond.

She’s got no chance and she’s got no faith,

Alice is a tower; but I want her down here.

I wonder what she’s thinking with her head in the air;

does she thinks about me or the man in the moon

He’s just her kind of man; he lives up there too;

maybe I should be jealous of the man in the moon,

but Alice doesn’t love him, I’m her only one.

I sat in a park with a girl called Alice

if she asked me to I would burn down Dallas.

If she asked me to I would burn down Dallas,

I sat in a park with a girl called Alice.
