Call Me a Sailor
The words I say to myself
are so infrequently kind
So be patient
as I tell myself its true
that I deserve
someone like you
and that G-d won’t take
what I took years to find.
The pillows next to my head
have been cold too long.
My sheets and
my sense of salvation
have longed for the
heat of your affection.
There’s a fire around my eyes;
my legs have found a song.
There’s stars all around
the cracks in our ceiling
I threw them
there for you to look up to
but these constellations
that I found on you
they made me a sailor
they’ll keep me sailing;
if you call me a sailor
I’ll sail your star-eyed sea.
