Patreon Active Now

Friends,

My time living in Lubbock, TX has drawn to an end. I am currently spending some time in Dallas and preparing for my forthcoming travels. One of the most important aspects of looking toward future as an artist is income. The purist in me initially pushed against the idea of having a Patreon, but I’m excited to be have a way to share my thoughts on my songs, let you all into the creative process and generally have an avenue to a closer relationship with those who enjoy my music.

Available to my Pat-rons there will exclusive written content like poetry and essays, behind the scenes content like how certain songs were written, potential album artwork, interviews with musicians, etc., exclusive cover songs and demos recordings, polls about what the future of my creative output should look like, and for the Hardiest of Pat-rons there will be monthly livestreams.

Creating music is not an inexpensive enterprise, so if there’s anything from my creative output that resonates with you, please consider showing your appreciation and support through my Patreon.

As a final note for those interested, I would like to add my thoughts on the ethics of artists asking for money especially in the modern era on sites like Patreon. It only takes a brief survey of history to know that the artists have always relied on patrons, most often this was the church and the aristocracy. It has been quite a while since the church and the aristocracy have been the primary patrons of the arts (depending on how you view things, I suppose), which has allowed for increasing artistic freedom, but has also brought difficulty for artists to sustain themselves off of what they do best. However, in our contemporary age the great tide of democracy has even overtaken the arts, and as the capitalists say you can “vote with your dollar” by offering money to your favorite artists (more or less) directly. My guitar player, Gavin, told me about a musician who invited him to coffee just to ask him and his wife for $500 a month. No added benefits, just allowing this person to be a musician. This ought to make your skin crawl as it does mine. Patreon on the other hand allows for fair levels of support and incentivizes the artist to make additional content for their audience. So, once again, if you enjoy what I do, please consider supporting what you enjoy.

Peace be with you.
